I Love March!

calendarMarch

I love the month of March!  It feels like the year is finally beginning.

bloom-blooming-blossom-355663The seasons change and it feels like the world is waking up again…more sunlight, warmer temperatures, and spring flowers begin to show filling dead looking spaces with beautiful colors and aromas.

choir-306900_640I remember songs from growing up in Military Chapel services like: Lead On O King Eternal the day of march has come, March On O Soul with Strength, and Onward Christian Soldiers, to name a few. Scripture tells us that spring was the time that men went out to war. And so many of these songs have the word “march” in them, that I associated them with the month of March.

March on O soul with strength, as strong the battle rolls! ‘Gainst lies and lusts and wrongs, let courage rule our soul

Lead on O King eternal, the day of march has come…we follow not with fears…till sins fierce war shall cease

Onward Christian Soldiers marching as to war…like a mighty army moves the church of God…hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross…put on the gospel armor, each piece put on with prayer

We’re marching to Zion, beautiful, beautiful Zion

warfarehelmetsI know the lyrics weren’t necessarily referring to the month of March, but every March I’m reminded of them. And it births in me a strong desire to be adequately armed for spiritual battle.

It reminds me that the enemy of our soul is on the move and ready with an attack, and I need to be vigilant in praying for my loved ones. And in praising God that He protects and directs, that He guards and guides, He helps and heals.

winner-4912049_640I am reminded that He dwells in the midst of our praise. So I give Him praise! No matter what circumstances, or trial or sorrow I may face, God will be with me and is in control.

And in the victories, it is His power that allows me to rejoice.

March is coming to an end, but as you see the signs of spring where you are; the snow melting,  the flowers blooming, the trees budding, the birds returning, let it be a reminder to you to armor up! And join in, for the Battle Belongs to the Lord!

Weeds? in December??

Probably not growing in your yard right now…but how about in your relationships?

christmas-gd3db77893_640As the holidays are upon us, many people are reminded that all may not be well on their lawn of life. And as we plan to gather, some family or social interactions may be less than ideal.

Weeds of bitterness, jealousy, shame, anger and fear can ruin your enjoyment of relationships and get a stranglehold on your sense of peace and joy during the holiday season.

pulling-weeds-samanthasThey can show up as ugly, undesirable feelings, cross, unkind words or unloving attitudes. But you can tackle and remove them!  Just like in your garden, you just need to

Prepare the ground and Prepare yourself.

1 – Prepare the ground

blur-1867402_640Spend time in prayer asking God to go before you and to be at work in the situation causing you pain. He may choose to change the circumstances, but He may also choose to change something in you. Be willing to accept what God tells you is needed. Ask Him to work in the circumstances and in the lives of any people involved.

If you need to go to someone and talk to them, ask God to safeguard the time set aside for the meeting and prepare their hearts to help you remove the weed between you. Also ask God to send the Holy Spirit to be in control of the interaction and guide both your words and the other person’s responses.

2 – Prepare yourself

Go forward in the full armor and protection of God. To be cleansed by His perfect forgiveness, confess any sin in your life. Be especially specific involving the “weed” situation you are working on. Ask for and accept His forgiveness, cleansing you from your sin and removing guilt and shame.

armor-of-godNext prayerfully ask God to give you His perspective on the problem. He may want to teach you something through this difficulty. Ask for His will to be done in the situation. Ask God for wisdom to show you how to get a grip on and remove the root of the issue. Pray on every piece of the armor of God found in Ephesians 6:10-18 to protect you from anything during any interaction with the other person, and anything that might keep the “weed” alive in your life to defeat you.

You may discover that the biggest, meanest looking weeds give way easily when God has prepared both you and the ground.

Don’t be afraid to tackle the weeds! Keep pulling on them and working the ground till they give way and are gone! In this way, you can be victorious and enjoy the holidays with healthy, positive relationships growing unencumbered in your new, weed-free life!

Waiting on the Lord Part 3

How’s it going?  Do you still feel like you’re “waiting on the Lord?”

Is there a possibility that you have gotten off track and aren’t in a place where you can hear Him?

man-5819617_640

I had a dream where I was driving down the interstate.  I got off at an exit and sat there asking God which direction to go.  Should I go left towards the town, right up the frontage road, straight into the parking lot of a restaurant?

I sat and sat asking God what to do – which direction did He want me to go??  I was ready to be obedient and wanted to hear from Him.  I waited and waited….Silence.

highway-6501618_640My mind began to float up, out of the car so I could look down on myself – kind of like that feeling you get when you have a fever and your head floats up to the ceiling…  Anyway, I could see myself sitting at the intersection in the car.  I floated higher and could see the exit ramp from the interstate and surrounding area like a map laid out under me.

I floated even higher until I could see back to the exit I had passed and ahead to the next one.  That’s where I saw Him – God!

exit-44205_640He was waiting for me up at the next exit.  It was as if I could hear Him saying “When is she gonna get here?  I’m waiting to give her guidance if she would only get here…”

I had jumped the gun!  I had not listened for where to get off – I just wanted directions for which way to go in my current circumstances – without even stopping to ask if I was in the right place to begin with!

When I awoke, I had a new perspective.  I had felt the frustration of “waiting on the Lord” while He was, no doubt, feeling some frustration in waiting on me!

Kneeling-in-aweAre you where He wants you to be?

Stop. Drop. Pray.

Ask the Lord to show you where He is, and where you need to be.

And see if you need to make a course correction in order to get yourself to the place where He has blessings waiting for you.

Are you praying Apples or Potatoes?

praying-5406270_640 (1)

I’ve been praying a LOT lately – maybe you have too.  So many things happening in my life, my family, with Covid-19, in our nation, the world!

sunset-2535751_640

And I trust and thank God that He hears all of my prayers, and your prayers too. Whether we are singing out in praise, calling out thanksgiving, whispering out our needs, or crying out in brokenness, I know that God hears and answers every time.

I love it when I can see God’s hand at work in the relationship or situation I’m praying about.  It’s so encouraging! It’s like watching an apple tree:  you can see the leaves appear, then the buds come, the blossoms open and then fall off, and you can see the tiny fruit form.  The apple grows and matures on the tree right before your eyes.

apple-1873078_640

An apple farmer can see his harvest before he ever starts collecting it.

Some prayers are like that. You get to see how God is working and preparing the answer for you right before your eyes. You can see change in the person or the situation, or in yourself.  It is so rewarding.

potato-839465_640

Other prayers are like potatoes. We keep praying and praying for a person, relationship, or situation but see no change, no growth, no hint of an answer on the way. The potato plant is like that: the leafy vine can be seen.

But the fruit or tuber, the part we eat, is formed underground. The vine remains unchanged above the ground as we water and fertilize. All the while the fruit, the tubers are developing and maturing under the ground where we can’t see.

digging-for-potatoes-1319302-640x480It is only by faith that a potato farmer begins the harvest, trusting there is a crop there under the ground!

Potato prayers are harder because you feel like nothing is happening in the situation you’re praying about.  When the truth is God is surely at work answering your prayer, just not in ways visible to the human eye.

Both kinds of prayers yield an amazing and fulfilling harvest. Both have the same promise of an answer from God. And both will build our faith.  If you are praying an Apple Prayer, thank God that He is allowing you to see His hand at work in the person or situation. Be encouraged.

underground-885206_640 (2)

If you have been praying a Potato Prayer, thank God for being at work beneath the surface.  And be encouraged!

Trust in God and in His timing and purpose. We are the workers but the harvest belongs to the Lord!

people-2604834_640And especially for those Potato Prayers, Father, help us wait and not fall into discouragement, self-pity or giving up.  Keep our faith strong and our trust in You solid; so that at the end of the waiting, we will sing of the wonders of the Lord!  Amen

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14

What a season!

winter-landscape-636634_640

What a season we are in! And I don’t mean winter.

question-mark-5470199_640human-5480043_640We are in a season of media frenzy and we have been for some time. Stories pop up on my phone constantly, and call for me to read them. Many inflame and upset my heart and my mind and bring confusion to my thoughts. So many issues seem unjust, unfair, just plain wrong. And they offer no solution.

My solution, is to be still to listen for God’s voice. I take a walk and lift my eyes to the mountains or to the sky. I watch the clouds, or the pine trees bending in the gentle wind. I watch the geese wintering here from Canada.

reading-4045414_640

I sit quietly and read scripture. Some I read out loud, looking for the truth of who I am, created by God; and who He is and His love for me and every individual He created in the world. And I let the truth wash over me.

praying-5406270_640From within the truth I look out onto the world with compassion and I pray for it: its leaders, its people, the issues that so perplex and confuse us because of the false news and misinformation being propagated.

I pray for the hearts of men and women and children to be turned to the Lord. And for God to speak to those in power who control governments, the media, the militaries, the corporations, the churches, synagogues and mosques, and the field of entertainment – and for those people to listen.

people-2604834_640

For me, it has become a season of prayer.  And of listening more intently for God’s Voice.  He does speak.

And especially now, I’m listening.
