Feeling Overwhelmed??

goals-g49fb4cdec_640Did you make New Year’s Resolutions?

The year is about half over – how are they coming?

Or did you set some goals to work on for the year?  Or for your life? With your job? Your health? Your family?

hourglass-620397_640 (1)I recently turned a scary significant age. I’ve had those feelings before – that there is more time behind me than ahead of me…but this one really stunned me.

I reviewed some of the goals I had set over the years, and felt a discomforting sense of urgency to really put the pedal to the metal and get moving!

goal planningBut where to start? Some things I was already in the process of doing. And some were things that could be done relatively easily. But then there are some pretty big goals that I had always thought I’d have plenty of time to do…

Where did all that time go?

god-2025655_640Looking at my list that sense of overwhelming urgency and pressure hit and I didn’t know where to begin.

Since I included God in making my list, I decided to ask Him where to start.

book-1209805_1920He knows the plans He has for me – Jeremiah 29:11.

And He knows the number of days I have – Psalm 139:16.

And He knows ME!  Psalm 139:1-4.

Over 7 Days, I asked Him for Help. Direction, Inspiration, Motivation, Provision, Protection, and how to Proceed.

prayer-401401_640And HE SHOWED UP !

success-413093_640He is leading me one step at a time. He is opening doors for me – creating Divine Appointments for me!  That’s what I call opportunities He arranges for me to just happen to be in the right place at the right time to hear or see something or someone who will contribute to His provision for my life.

And He has reduced my stress level significantly and raised my sense of getting some important things done – so I am feeling more purposeful, and blessed.

Invite the Lord into your process of tackling whatever is making you feel overwhelmed.

Ask Him to direct your path, show you where to start, what the next step is.

I’m praying He’ll show up for you, like He did for me.

Waiting on the Lord Part 3

How’s it going?  Do you still feel like you’re “waiting on the Lord?”

Is there a possibility that you have gotten off track and aren’t in a place where you can hear Him?

man-5819617_640

I had a dream where I was driving down the interstate.  I got off at an exit and sat there asking God which direction to go.  Should I go left towards the town, right up the frontage road, straight into the parking lot of a restaurant?

I sat and sat asking God what to do – which direction did He want me to go??  I was ready to be obedient and wanted to hear from Him.  I waited and waited….Silence.

highway-6501618_640My mind began to float up, out of the car so I could look down on myself – kind of like that feeling you get when you have a fever and your head floats up to the ceiling…  Anyway, I could see myself sitting at the intersection in the car.  I floated higher and could see the exit ramp from the interstate and surrounding area like a map laid out under me.

I floated even higher until I could see back to the exit I had passed and ahead to the next one.  That’s where I saw Him – God!

exit-44205_640He was waiting for me up at the next exit.  It was as if I could hear Him saying “When is she gonna get here?  I’m waiting to give her guidance if she would only get here…”

I had jumped the gun!  I had not listened for where to get off – I just wanted directions for which way to go in my current circumstances – without even stopping to ask if I was in the right place to begin with!

When I awoke, I had a new perspective.  I had felt the frustration of “waiting on the Lord” while He was, no doubt, feeling some frustration in waiting on me!

Kneeling-in-aweAre you where He wants you to be?

Stop. Drop. Pray.

Ask the Lord to show you where He is, and where you need to be.

And see if you need to make a course correction in order to get yourself to the place where He has blessings waiting for you.

Light of the World

Father, without You we are in complete and utter darkness.

Our world is dark.  This time of year the nights are longer so there is more physical darkness to the day.  Without artificial light we would not be able to see to get around in the dark.

There is also a kind of emotional darkness that comes from worry, stress, anxiety and fear.  These can be due to a lack of direction or encouragement.  Or a lack of truth in relationships.  Or from hardships, difficulties and tragedies we endure.

And there is also a spiritual darkness that seems to pervade our world.   At times it appears that evil is prospering.  And it has an upper hand so many places where there is persecution, hatred, and violence.

Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for being the Light of the World.  You are Light in our lives in so many different ways.

Three in particular come to mind.

Soft light.

background-boy-christmas-713148 (1).jpgYou can be the soft light that allows us to feel relaxed, comfortable and safe; like the light from a campfire, or Christmas lights, or early morning just before the sun rises.

That kind of warmth or glow is gentle.  And You can be gentle with us.  You can wrap us in a radiance that calms us and brings a sense of peace no matter the circumstances.

In allowing You to envelope us in a blanket of soft light there is a sense of security.

Bright light.

Daylight allows us to see things as they are.  We can see traps, holes, dangers.  We can navigate safely.  We can perceive more clearly.  And the bright light that You provide also lets us see the truth in ourselves and our relationships.  It allows us to see the reality of our true identity and our circumstances.

Your bright light provides us with direction and clarity.  And that brings confidence.

Laser light.

laser-858309_640Light can be so strong that it burns.  Lasers can be weapons of destruction.  Or they can be so focused that they can be treatments for cutting out dead or diseased tissue.

As such, Your laser light can seek out and target our worries, fears, bitterness.  And can be a healing light burning out cancer and disease.

I praise You that You are Light.  That there is no darkness in You.

And that by Your light I can walk and live and prosper as my soul is prospering in the salvation You brought to the world.  Amen

You Light My Path

flashlight-325462_640

Recently I found myself walking with a group of friends in the dark. I had a small flashlight that came in handy as the sidewalk had a broken and uneven surface.

detective-flashlight-260x300We huddled together and moved forward cautiously. At first, I thought it would be best to shine the light up ahead of us so we could see where the path curved or stopped at a curb or was cut off by bushes.   But it became clear that we could walk with the most certainty and speed when the light shone brightly on the very next step we were to take.

Looking ahead is good for getting a sense of direction, but we needed the close, step by step guidance to be sure our ankles didn’t turn or slip off the narrow path.

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Your Word, the Bible, is that light for me. The scriptures come alive in the circumstances of my life.

Pros_and_Cons_of_Tech_Communication_When I am not sure which option is best, Your Word tells me “Trust in the Lord with all Your heart and lean not on Your own understanding.” So while it is wise to make a list of pros and cons and count the cost of decisions, the logic of the world is not the final answer. Trusting in You to lead me through prayer and Scripture helps me make my final choice.

When I feel frustrated with something I had hoped would turn out better, You tell me “Do not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time [you] will reap a harvest…”. It picks me up and lets me know that instant gratification isn’t always available.   And reiterates that some things take time to see desired results.

Or when I feel discouraged, alone and depressed, You tell me “I have carried you since your birth…I will continue to be with you and sustain you, even when you have gray hairs. I will always carry you; I will always sustain you; I will always rescue you.” [paraphrased to personalize] Your Word reminds me I am never, ever, no never, not ever alone.

Like the flashlight on the path, Your Word helps me see that next step and take it.

Thank You Father, that You care so much for me that even in the darkness of this world and its ‘wisdom’ You have made a way for me to stay on Your path and keep moving ahead safely.
