Many times God will speak through the circumstances of our lives. We learn about the world and how to live in it as we come into contact with our environment and the circumstances of living.
Think about it, the best time to teach a child is when they show and interest or have a direct experience with something. If they love to color you can show them how some colors blend to make different colors. If they lose a pet, you teach them about loss. It’s the same with us.
Often, it takes so much just getting through the circumstances we face in life that we don’t even look any deeper to see a spiritual meaning. But God can and will use any opportunity to reveal wisdom to you, if you let Him.
We can watch how others behave and react to circumstances, and learn from their successes and mistakes. God will use others’ experiences to teach us something about ourselves, help us correct behaviors in ourselves, or show us something we will need in the future.
He may use relationships we have to demonstrate how His relationship with us is similar or different.
He may use challenges to help us grow in areas where we need to develop strength or wisdom.
Sometimes He allows things in our lives that we fear to face, or can see no way out of, only to deliver us in ways that we could not see as possibilities. I have learned much about prayer and God’s provision during the darkest times.
Whatever your circumstance, ask God what He has for you. Ask: Are You teaching me something about You? About myself? About our relationship? Are you showing me something I need to learn about life? About death? About eternity? About coping with difficulty?
Is there a spiritual similarity to what I am physically experiencing? Some spiritual truth You are showing me in my circumstances?
Whether pleasant circumstances or unpleasant, open up a dialogue with the Creator of the universe. He will have something to say to you. I am praying your spiritual eyes and ears will be open and attuned to what He has to say. And that you will be blessed with wisdom, strength, guidance, insight and whatever else you need as you make your way through life.
You are not alone. God has promised: Deuteronomy 31:6b “I will never leave you or forsake you.” And He wants you to learn and grow from Him: Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things that you do not know.” That’s a promise!
